Analysis
Language
I know that this is a film poster because there is a large text showing the name of the movie at the top of the poster which is a common convention of film posters. The person central to the poster is the main character, I can tell he is a central character because he is in the centre, which draws the audiences attention to him, meaning he must be important to the plot. The colours on the poster are quite saturated and bright, which indicates that this film is lighter-hearted and child friendly, as colour is a characteristic most commonly associated with children.
Industry
The industry that produced this movie was DreamWorks studio, who's popular for their children's films. This movie in particular, (How to Train your Dragon) grossed 218 million dollars in box office revenue for DreamWorks, making it one of their most successful franchises, with lots of merchandise, spin-off's and sequels created for the movie.
Audience
The target audience for this movie was children, I know this because the protagonist, Hiccup, looks quite young, similar to the audience it's meant for. Also, the film doesn't seem very violent or unfriendly for children as the poster is quite cute and welcoming. In addition to that, the poster is computer generated and animated movies tend to be for children.
Representation
The movie represents teenagers as very capable and powerful in this poster. The main character is a teenager and in the poster he can be seen stood in quite an empowering position upon a dragon. This poster represents the teenage populous as powerful and strong, which can be very inspiring for many teenagers internationally. Also a female character of the same age can also be seen in the poster, riding a dragon similar to the male in the poster, which shows that females can do anything a male can do in this film.
