WWW- Wow, Aishwarya, I am so impressed with the commitment and effort you have shown me in your first term studying Media. If you carry on with this conscientious attitude then I have no doubt you will be able to achieve or exceed your high target. All your work is up to date even when you have missed lessons and had to catch up on your own time. You have clearly shown an aptitude for the subject and an understanding of the media language and theory we have studied since you are applying these to your own analysis of products and all of your written work. Your blog posts are detailed and you always try to get to the extension to push yourself. Well done.
Your essay on the power of audiences is well written with clear examples given for each industry. You have used media terminology (such as ‘Prosumer’, ‘franchise’ and ‘platform’) accurately and confidently to enhance your examples. You have weighed up both sides maturely and given examples to back up your points.
EBI- Could you examine the success of a film franchise such as Harry Potter, Marvel films or The Hunger Games or a TV drama series like Humans or Stranger Things and have a look at ways in which these films have used social media as a means of marketing? Look at marketing campaigns such as using hashtags, websites, Apps, games, free downloads, Instagram / Snapchat to generate hype. This will give your film and television section a wider scope when examining the advantages that the internet offers audiences. What are all the different options for how to access films and television, such as streaming, ‘appointment to view’, downloads, piracy and catch up?
In your introduction, you could also say some more general things about disadvantages and advantages of the internet such as the unregulated nature of the world wide web (meaning young people can access inappropriate material/films that are not suitable) and the dangers such as cyber-bullying, trolling and identity theft, to name but a few.
LR- See blog.
2) What was the word count for your essay?
922
3) What was your strongest paragraph? Why do you think it was better than others?
Personally, my strongest paragraph was the second paragraph I wrote for Film and TV Industry. I think this is my strongest paragraph because it has the widest and most powerful range of media vocabulary and it had an array of examples.
4) What was your weakest paragraph? Why do you think it wasn't as good as others?
I think my weakest paragraph was the second one I wrote for the Newspaper Industry. I think this is my weakest paragraph because it had quite a small variation in vocabulary and in general, it was my smallest paragraph.
5) Re-write one of your paragraphs from the essay - your teacher may have suggested an area to focus on. Make sure the written English is perfect, the paragraph sharply focuses on the question (audience power and the internet) and you include examples and statistics where possible.
I am going to re-write what I think is my weakest paragraph.
In opposition to this, the fact that anybody can become a citizen journalist means that there is less demand for actual journalists, as the same information can be found in the information citizen journalists provide. However, citizen journalism is often viewed as fake or untrustworthy this is because, a lot of the time, citizen news is factually incorrect or completely false. A concern is that many consumers still believe this "fake news" is true, which could lead to people becoming worried about something that isn't true. (an example is throughout Trump's election campaign). In addition to this, it is very difficult for said citizen journalists to create careers for themselves because they are seen as untrustworthy. An example of this is the one we saw in class, where the civilian journalist had relevant information from a NATO meeting but was ignored due to not being a confirmed source on Twitter.
