1) What conventions of an advert can you find and what are the connotations of each one?
2) For each convention, write about how this appeals to a target audience.

In this advert, there is a picture of the product. 5 different flavours of dairy milk can be seen laid out in a fan, and they're all glowing in different colours. The fact that they are laid out in a fan makes it seem like someone has just put their chocolates on a table, which appeals to their target audience because people enjoy having a choice, especially children. The fact that the chocolates are glowing suggests that the chocolates are almost ethereal since things that glow have connotations of heaven, which makes them seem special to their target audience. The USP of this product is that it comes in a range of flavours, by arranging the chocolates in a fan, it makes it feel as if there is a wider range of flavours, emphasising their USP. The advert mostly has consistent lighting throughout but there is a glow around the bars (elaborated on earlier). The colour scheme of this advert is Gold, Purple and White. The gold connotes a sense of wealth and value, making the chocolate seem valuable and expensive; the purple connotes a sense of royalty, which further emphasised how regal the chocolate seems; the white creates a sense of cleanliness and organisation since white is a sterile colour, so it makes the chocolate seem clean and sharp, which makes their target audience more likely to buy it because they want to feel royal too. The brand's (Cadbury's) logo takes up a majority of the image and it is the brand's name. By using a handwritten font for their logo, it makes the brand seem older and more refined, which makes the audience feel like they're getting a refined product. The logo is also accompanied by the slogan "Free The Joy". This slogan seems to indicate that their product is vital to experiencing joy, which makes the audience more likely to buy it because everyone wants to feel joy.
3) What is the USP (unique selling point) of the product and how do you know?
The USP of this product is that it has a variety of flavours. I know this because the product is pictured in a way that makes it seem as if there is a larger quantity of the product (in a fan shape).
