Disney, a leading conglomerate, was the primary creator of the Doctor Strange movie. In particular, the Marvel subsidiary that it owns was the leading company involved with the movie's development.

2) What is conglomerate ownership and how does it link to Doctor Strange?
It is when one large and powerful company own many other smaller companies called conglomerates, and in the case of Dr Strange, it was developed under a subsidiary of Disney.

3) Who regulates the film industry in the UK?
In the UK the film industry is regulated by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification).

4) What age rating was Doctor Strange given? Why?
It was given an age rating of 12A, due to its mild fantasy violence and detailed injuries. However, due to its minimal inclusion of violent scenes, it wasn't worthy of such a strong rating of 15.

5) How was Doctor Strange promoted to an audience? List at least three different methods used by the film's marketing campaign.
Through many traditional methods of marketing, like TV trailers and cinema teasers, posters and social media promotions, exclusive interviews with the cast as well as through Marvel's mobile game, where they introduced new characters for promoting the movie.

6) Analyse the film trailer for Doctor Strange. What aspects of the trailer tell you this is a big-budget blockbuster movie?
The trailer includes a large amount of CGI, loud music and sharp editing, as well as the inclusion of the studio's logo in the trailer, which are familiar tropes of big-budget films.

7) What was the production budget for Doctor Strange and how much did it make at the box office?
The movie had a production budget of $165 million, and it made $700 million at the box office, almost 4 times the initial cost.

8) Would you consider Doctor Strange a successful Hollywood blockbuster? Why?
I would, due to its massive profit turnover and its international fame, as well as the awards it gained for costume design and visual effects, which were phenomenal in the film.

I, Daniel Blake: Industries

1) What is independent cinema and how is it different from Hollywood blockbusters?
Independent cinema usually has smaller budgets and are funded by small companies or the public. However, unlike Hollywood Blockbusters, which are typically controlled by the companies supporting them, 'indie' films have much more creative control over the contents of their movie.

2) What is "I, Daniel Blake" about?
'I, Daniel Blake', is a social realism film about the problems with the benefits system of the UK, and how it affects those who are wronged by it.

3) Who directed I, Daniel Blake and why is this important?
'I, Daniel Blake' is directed by Ken Loach, a famous social realism director, and his presence in the production of the film created director power for the movie.

4) How was I, Daniel Blake promoted to an audience? List at least three different methods used by the film's marketing campaign.
It was promoted very unconventionally, mainly through disruptive techniques, like free showings, guerilla marketing campaigns and the film premiered in Newcastle, where the film is set.

5) What unusual or creative marketing methods were used to get audiences talking about the film?
The movie used guerilla marketing to promote itself, via projector graffiti on the parliament building, which gained traction in the news, helping increase the size of its audience.

6) What was the estimated production budget for I, Daniel Blake and how much did it make at the box office?
Around £2 million, and it made more than 5 times that amount at the box office, raking in £11 million.

7) How can independent films like I, Daniel Blake compete with Hollywood blockbusters like Doctor Strange?
'Indie' movies can hope to compete with blockbusters like Doctor Strange if they have a decent plot, a strong promotion, and an attainable audience. A key way that 'Indie' films can compete with Hollywood films like Doctor Strange would be to get a large social media following, as this can help catapult a movie into the 'big leagues'.

8) In your opinion, was I, Daniel Blake a success?
Personally, I believe 'I, Daniel Blake' was a very successful movie in conveying the message it had to show, and its unique marketing techniques really boosted the popularity of the film. Honestly, it is not a movie that I would watch, but for its genre, I believe it is very successful.
